Keep Your Caravan in Top Shape
If you own a caravan, then you know that with constant use, some of the parts will get worn and torn over time. When this happens, you’ll have no other option but to replace them. There are other instances when these caravan parts need to be replaced before they get worn, such as accidents, severe weather conditions, theft, and other malicious acts.
Auxiliary Battery
At AllBrand, we are big fans of the secondary or “auxiliary” battery system. This auxiliary battery is used to power the non-critical appliances of your rig (this means, for example, brake controllers are not run via auxiliary power), for example radios, fridges, Engel appliances, lights, pumps, phone and laptop chargers – all without sacrificing the integral gear of your rig’s access to power via the starting battery. This ensures that even if your auxiliary battery is run dry, you’ll still be able to get home.
Auxiliary Battery Fittings
We fit quality locally made anodised cradles, which are rust and corrosion resistant for long life and along with an automatic battery isolator for ease of use. (No more having to remember to change switch modes). The battery isolator also ensures the cranking battery receives full charge before charging the auxiliary batteries. The auxiliary circuit can also be used to charge a battery in the van via an Andersen plug circuit, which runs the 12V appliances in your caravan. This could effectively and safely double the amount of battery power available for your stay away from mains power.
What to Look For
When selecting an auxiliary battery you should be looking at the best quality and highest amp-hour capacity you can fit – with preference for deep cycle batteries as these batteries are designed to be slowly drained over a longer time and can be discharged to flat and recharged safely without long-term damage to the battery, due to their heavier construction. Although a dual battery system and auxiliary wiring may seem simple, due to the complex wiring and many onboard computers in cars, nowadays it is easy for things to go wrong and it is something that should really be left to qualified and experienced people for long-term peace of mind.
