Can I tow a caravan with a bent drawbar?
Do not tow it unless a competent professional has confirmed it is safe. A bent drawbar may affect coupling alignment, load transfer, tracking and structural integrity.
Can a caravan drawbar be straightened?
Sometimes a repair may be possible, but straightening is not automatically appropriate. Material, deformation, cracking, heat effects, construction and engineering requirements must be considered.
Is drawbar damage covered by caravan insurance?
It depends on the cause and policy. Sudden accidental damage may be treated differently from corrosion, fatigue, overloading, poor maintenance or an unauthorised modification.
What damage can jackknifing cause?
Jackknifing may damage the coupling, A-frame, jockey wheel, gas-bottle mounts, toolbox, front panel, electrical connections and the tow vehicle.
Can you repair the coupling and brake wiring too?
Yes, where included in the approved scope. Related coupling, safety-chain, breakaway, brake and electrical components can be assessed and repaired or replaced as appropriate.
Will the repair require engineering approval?
That depends on the damage, repair method, vehicle construction and applicable requirements. We will explain when engineering or certification input may be required.
Can you repair front fibreglass damage caused by the impact?
Yes. Related front-panel, fibreglass, cladding and storage-compartment damage can be included where assessed and authorised.
How long do drawbar damage repairs take?
Timing depends on assessment, insurer approval, engineering requirements, parts or material availability, repair complexity and workshop scheduling.
What photos should I send?
Include the entire caravan, both sides of the A-frame, the coupling, damaged mounts, safety chains, wiring, the front body and close-ups of cracks, bends or torn metal.
